Registered Nurse - RN - School Nurse

ShiftMed LLC is looking for caring and passionate Registered Nurses for the 2025-2026 School Year.

Hourly Comp: $30

 SCHOOL NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION – REGISTERED NURSE, RN:

1. Hours: 7:00am to 2:30pm or 8:30am to 4:00pm - Monday - Friday (no nights or weekends)
2. Work a full school Calendar: Beginning of August through end of May
3. As a school nurse you will provide care to various sick/injured children according to health guidelines. You will be provide health services outline in the school health services manual.

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:

1. Familiar with Diastat, Glucagon, Epi-pens, Inhalers, Nebulizers
2. Route of meds frequently given: subcutaneous, enteral, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, nasal sprays
3. Oxygen administration via nasal cannula, bag, mask. Familiar with concentrators and portable tanks as well as how to change them out.
4. Documentation - Online/Paper
5. Identifies adverse reactions related to medications
6. Insulin
7. Doses based on carbohydrate counts
8. Insulin pen, syringes, insulin pumps

SKILLS FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:

1. Identification of students with chronic health conditions
2. Care coordination for children with chronic health needs
3. Support for control of communicable diseases such as COVID-19 including contract tracing
4. Record checks and outreach to families for state-required health screenings/immunizations
5. Support for oversight of LPN practice
6. Treatment iof children with diabetes
7. Glucose monitoring
8. Ketone monitoring
9. Hypoglycemic interventions
10. Hyperglycemic interventions
11. Insulin administration. Most doses in the school setting are based on carbohydrate counts. May also see students who have orders for sliding scale.
12. Insulin pumps
13. Enteral Nutrition:
14. Medication administration, enteral feedings, trouble shooting, site monitoring, placement check, tube replacement
15. Nasoenteric tubes
16. PEG tubes
17. CPR, AED, First aid

SKILLS CONTINUED FOR REGISTERED NURSE, RN:

1. Vital measurements: respirations, heart rate, temperature (P.O., tympanic, and axillary routes), pain
2. Assessment: lung sounds, heart sounds, neurological, gastrointestinal, signs of abuse/neglect, various injuries
3. Immunization administration
4. Seizure precautions 
5. Able to identify adverse reactions/negative changes in a child’s assessment and is able to appropriately report these changes
6. Identifies and appropriately reports emergent medical situations
7. Catheterization of males and female children
8. Tracheostomy care, replacement, In-line and standard suction catheters.
9. Application of splints, ace bandages, cast care, warm/cool compresses
10. Childhood behavioral/mood disorders
11. Commonly seen medical conditions in a school:
12. Headaches, cuts/scrapes, fevers, vomiting/diarrhea, respiratory illnesses, allergies, conjunctivitis, rashes, head lice
