What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interpreter Cantonese and Mandarin Required position at CARES?
CARES is a non-profit organization that serves children and adults with developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses. We are treating underserved multilingual populations of Chinese and Latinx immigrant families along with a broad range of NYC residents. Our mission is to improve the individual's emotional well-being as well as expand development in various areas such as cognitive, social-emotional, and language. CARES provides behavior support services, psychotherapy, family support groups, respite, and habilitative services from early childhood through adulthood.
Salary Range: $45-$50k Location: Lower East Side, NY, NY
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The interpreters work with our Chinese speaking clients and their families and facilitate the provision of the necessary services. Interpreters assist with intake, completing documentation, verbal and written translating as needed, along numerous clerical tasks. If needed, we will enroll candidates in a medical terminology course at our expense.
- Work with clients and their families in order to provide services.
- Document management.
- Translate documents.
- Complete administrative tasks as needed.
- Scan and store documents to client files.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Must be fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate.
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Computer proficiency (MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly.
