As a Installation Technician on our Crane & Hoist team, you will assist the Lead Installer in the safe, efficient installation of structural steel and overhead crane systems. This hands-on role includes reading blueprints, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring structural integrity through close collaboration with engineers and project managers. You will assist with the full project lifecycle, including planning, execution, safety compliance, and close-out, while ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.

Essential Job Functions
- Installation and Layout of Crane Systems:
- Perform layout, alignment, and installation of bridge crane systems, ensuring precision and compliance with engineering specifications.
- Read and Interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the layout of work.
- Work together as team and Installation Lead for directions and prioritize tasks for project completion

- Conduct measurements, leveling, and adjustments for accurate placement of crane systems.
- Steel Erection and Assembly:
- Assist in steel erection and ensure the secure attachment of structural components, beams, and supports.

- Operate lifting and rigging equipment safely for the erection and placement of steel structures.
- Welding and Fabrication:
- Perform welding and metal fabrication as necessary for the installation of crane systems and supporting structures.

- Inspect and prepare welds to meet structural integrity standards and quality requirements.
- Compliance and Safety Adherence:
- Ensure installation processes comply with OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations.

- Maintain a safe work environment, following all company safety protocols and federal/state regulations.

- Perform risk assessments and identify potential hazards, ensuring that all safety equipment is utilized.
- Maintain all company equipment and tools in compliance with the manufacturers recommendations and certifications.
- Responsible for maintaining a proper stock level of inventory and items on service vehicle.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot installation issues, making adjustments and repairs as necessary.
- Conduct inspections as well as implement testing procedures for equipment run-off and ensure safe practices are followed for all equipment installed.

- Provide technical support to clients and team members on installation and operation procedures.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete installation documentation and reports, detailing tasks performed, safety checks, and any issues encountered.
- Ensure projects and tasks are completed on time and within budget

- Maintain accurate records of installations for compliance and quality assurance purposes
- Maintain regular communication with local office and branch management on a minimum of once per day.
- Keep all training assignments current and maintain compliance with all company policy and requirements.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High School diploma required; Associates or higher degree in electronics, industrial maintenance, or related field work or experience is preferred.
- Experience in the crane and hoisting industry is also preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in system installation, steel erection, welding, and fabrication.
- Must pass drug and background checks to support all CIS & customer requirements.
- Capable and comfortable working in new locations, with new people, every day
- Ability & comfort working at heights is required.
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical devices is preferred.
- Proficiency in layout techniques, welding (MIG, TIG, Stick), fabrication, rigging, and alignment tools.
- NCCCO Signalperson and Rigging, Welding certification preferred; familiarity with OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification is a plus.
- Experience with electrical control circuits for single and three phase power is preferred.
- Mechanical gearing knowledge is preferred.
- Motor repair experience is preferred.
- Experience erecting and connecting steel beams
- VFD knowledge is desirable and preferred, but not required.
- Fabricating and non-structural welding skills are required .
- Strong experience regarding equipment modifications including VFD retrofits, radio remote installs, motor & gear replacements, electrical retrofits, and hard bar to festoon conversions.
- Experienced and comfortable working with primary modes of digital communication, data management, and documentation tools (MS Office, ERP & CRM systems, and work order and service dispatch systems)
- Comprehensive understanding of OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and DOT/FMCSA regulations and standards.
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely with CIS customers and associates.
- Will be required to operate fork truck and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS).
Physical Requirements
- Ability & comfort working at heights is required.
- Ability to travel across the Mid-Atlantic (and across Carlton’s growing footprint) 25% of the time; travel may be higher or lower based on business need.
- Must be comfortable working in tight spaces.
- Ability to operate machinery and tools for extended periods deemed necessary to safely complete task(s). Comfortable working at heights up to 50’ using scissor-lifts/boom-lifts and able to routinely lift 75 pounds.
- Some heavy lifting may be required and may include, safely lifting up to 50lbs.; may occasionally need to lift heavier weights (up to 100lbs) with other team members or with appropriate lifting equipment.
- o Parts may need to be moved from vehicle to cart and to customer equipment.
- o Weight may need to be pushed or pulled on a handcart.
- o Weight lifted may include moving from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and shoulder to overhead as job assignment dictates.
- May include lifting heavy objects while climbing, bending, stooping, reaching, etc.
- May be required to wear respirator or various other PPE on required jobs.
- Able to perform the essential job functions at elevations, in confined, cold, wet, hot, humid, or unsanitary conditions as well as a combination of these.
- Able to efficiently use all types of hand tools, power tools and hydraulic controlled devices; must provide own basic hand tools.
- Able to read digital and analog indicated meters and weighing devices.
- Must have good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of electrical theory.
- Must maintain valid driver’s license and be able to drive company vehicle extended hours with few breaks up to eight hours a day and more if overtime is required.
- Must have good verbal/written communication skills and understand basic math skills including converting measurements.
- Able to communicate with customers and employees in a clear and concise manner.
