What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician position at Carmeuse Lime & Stone?
Job Summary:
The Lab Technician works with samples of product from the quarry and plant to assure product meets quality control and customer standards.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- This is primarily a night shift position, but will rotate from time to time for training and other operational needs;
- Sample and test lime/limestone and associated products in a continuous plant manufacturing operation;
- Data entry to SAP of all quality results from laboratory operation including but not limited to certificate generation, reports, downloads, data verification, and module maintenance;
- Monitoring of laboratory equipment and reports of conditions that could lead to product nonconformity;
- Report & correct equipment irregularities;
- Document control and training requirements related to our ISO program by assuring that our business management system meets the requirements of the ISO standards;
- Provide training (and subsequent documentation) on all new and existing procedures;
- Work with our sales team to compile and maintain customer guidelines;
- Assist in the maintenance of work instruction manuals for job positions;
- Ensure compliance with documented procedures, work instructions, and guidelines;
- Provide documentation & maintenance of quality records;
- Initiate action to prevent production and release of non-conforming product until deficiency or non-conforming product has been corrected within area of responsibility;
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Job Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s Degree in a related field;
- Bachelor's Degree is highly preferred;
- 5 years of laboratory experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is very important; Computer proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and ability to learn SAP;
- Chemical background is a plus;
- Prior experience in, or knowledge of, ISO is preferred;
- Strong math and organizational skills along with ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures; Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently while also operating in a team environment;
- High level of integrity and motivation;
- Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
