What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analyst Intermediate, Cloud FinOps position at Carnival Corporation?

This position is classified as “in-office.” As an in-office role, it requires employees to work from a designated Carnival office in South Florida, Tuesday through Thursday each week. Employees may work from their homes on Mondays and Fridays. Candidates must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

The Intermediate Analyst, Cloud FinOps is responsible for the timely analysis of cloud utilization and costs in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud, and across brands. This role ensures that the organization's cloud resource costs and usage are reported effectively, and in alignment with corporate standards and best practices. The position requires interaction with Finance and Sourcing Teams primarily, but also with Development and DevOps engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Cost Optimization tasks:
    • Monitor and analyze cloud utilization, providing actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders, and implementing strategies to control and reduce costs effectively.
    • Respond to inquiries from cloud teams on FinOps tooling and requests for help with understanding the cloud metadata.
  • Cloud FinOps culture communication:
    • Via training, documentation, meetings, and emails, suggest strategies and implement practices to manage and optimize the financial aspects of cloud usage.
    • Collaborate with finance and engineering teams to ensure transparency in cloud spend.
    • Evangelize a culture of cost awareness and accountability with assigned teams/brands.
    • Develop processes and tools to enhance financial accountability and reporting of cloud expenditures.
  • Reporting and Analytics:
    • Monitor cloud usage and spend metrics to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints with assigned teams.
    • Work closely with IT Finance to track and forecast cloud spending.
    • Produce metrics and dashboards to illustrate utilization and cost, working with Carnival-preferred tools.
  • Industry and Best Practices:
    • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to cloud cost optimization. Obtain a FinOps Foundation Practitioner certification within the first 3 months, if not already done.
Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cloud Technology, Business Finance, Data Analytics or related
  • Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cloud Technology, Business Finance, Data Science or related
  • Certification as FinOps Practitioner, FinOps Professional, FinOps Engineer, or FinOps FOCUS Analyst
  • Certification as AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft: Azure Fundamentals, or Google Cloud Digital Leader, or any preferred
  • Proven ability to implement Cloud FinOps principles and practices
  • Practitioner-level experience with cloud native cost management platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud) and third-party tools that normalize the metadata
  • Proven strong skills in communication, training, collaboration, time-management, and organization
  • Proven aptitude to learn new technologies and concepts
  • Desire to work within teams, but to accomplish work independently when required
  • Proven ability to think critically, problem solve creatively, and perform root cause analysis
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Oriented to data analysis details that mesh with a strong business sense
  • Proficiency in MS Office products
  • 2 years of experience using cloud native cost management tools and platforms
  • 2 years of experience in active use of FinOps 3rd party tooling such as Cloudability, CloudHealth, Flexera
  • 2 years of experience providing data for the management of budgets
  • 2 years of experience practicing within Cloud FinOps framework
  • 2 years of experience developing and implementing cloud standards, including governance frameworks, policies, and procedures, preferred.
  • 1 years in the cruise and/or travel industry, preferred.
