What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activity Therapist position at CARRUS BEHAVIORAL HOSPITAL LLC?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible to plan, organize, implement and evaluate Therapeutic Recreation and leisure programs to psychiatric patients, including group leisure time and physical education activities, which are designed to maximize the social, physical, cognitive and emotional functioning of patients so that a desirable quality of leisure life can be attained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of therapeutic recreation, physical education, dance movement, music therapy or related field.
2. Certification through the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS) or certification through the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation Activity Certification (TRS/TXC) or a COTA
3. Requires at least one (1) year of experience providing instruction in a recreational program; or in closely related work; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Previous experience in behavioral health strongly preferred.
4. Basic computer skills with minimal guidance.
5. Demonstrate a caring, friendly and professional demeanor with the ability to encourage and appropriately support others. Demonstrate knowledge of and exhibit skill in evaluating and treating adolescent, adult and geriatric persons with psychosocial and cognitive problems.
6. Must be organized and able to prioritize activities.
7. Must be cognizant of age appropriate activities.
