Security Officer - Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
The security officer (SO) maintains a safe and secure environment for Carson Valley Health employees, patients, and visitors by conducting patrols, inspections, and enforcement of applicable hospital policies and procedures. The officer responds to provide assistance in both non-emergency and emergency situations. The officer investigates critical incidents and interfaces with emergency response agencies. The officer assures the physical security of CVH’s building and grounds.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma, or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Certificate Required:
- BLS certificate.
Minimum Work Experience:
- Preferred six (6) months experience as a security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting, with prior law enforcement or military service; or one (1) year experience as a security officer.
- May not have any felony convictions or been convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude or illegal possession or use of a dangerous weapon.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments during stressful situations.
- Must be able to speak English, communicate clearly orally, and in writing; understand and use de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with others.
Certifications/Licensure:
- Current Nevada or California Driver's License with clean driving record required.
- Complete State of Nevada recommended security guard training upon hire.
- HICS Overview.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The functions include:
- Respond to all emergency codes and assure proper data is collected and reported in a timely manner.
- Recognize irregular, unusual or unsafe situations and take immediate action to resolve the issues wherever possible.
- Appropriately aid in the application of clinical or behavioral restraints.
- Monitor high risk patients to support clinical staff as needed. May be on-site or through video monitoring system.
- Demonstrate the proper handling and storage of patient belongings, valuables, and lost & found items.
- Investigate, report, and follow-up on all reportable incidents that occur.
- Submit well-written, complete, and detailed Security Incident Reports prior to the end of the shift.
- Oversee the delivery process for lab specimens to/from other offsite locations ensuring HIPAA compliance and chain- of-custody.
- Conduct interior and exterior patrols of CVMC facilities to detect and deter crime, theft, and vandalism.
- Respond to inquiries for advice or assistance from hospital personnel and visitors.
- Monitor access control to prevent unauthorized entry and access.
- Ensure consistent credentialing process of contractors and vendors.
- Support the Environment of Care initiatives as they pertain to safety and security.
- Assist with visitor wayfinding, screening and escorts.
- Attend scheduled trainings and meetings, which may fall on employees’ normal days off, as required.
