POSITION OBJECTIVE
Custodial Services strives to provide high quality, customer service-oriented cleaning services to the
university community. Building service workers provide routine and special cleaning services in
campus buildings and residence halls, including restrooms, bathrooms, offices, classrooms,
laboratories, and public areas. The nature and frequency of cleaning is performed according to
Custodial Services' Quality Control Program.
Essential Functions

The working environment may have occasional exposure to potential hazards such as chemicals,
commercial products, fumes, and dust. Typical shifts are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., 10 p.m.

non-smoking environment. The employee will have physical exertion and should be able to lift up
to 50 lbs., appropriate gloves, and protective eyewear will be provided.

- Spot clean walls, doors, partitions, switch plates, etc. Sweep, dust mop, wet mop, and spray
trays and erasers. (18%)
- In restrooms: clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, clean mirrors, mop bathroom floors and showers,
eyewashes, etc. Replenish all restroom supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels and soap;
Request supplies in reasonable quantities, to avoid shortages and overstocking. Turn in vending
funds. Clean interior glass and all types of furniture. (18%)
- Dust all flat and vertical surfaces and windowsills daily. Dust all surfaces including desks, tables,
remove cobwebs from ceilings and light fixtures. (18%)
- Clean Venetian blinds, HVAC grills, stairwells, handrails, push bars/plates, kick plates, elevator
Nonessential Functions
- Communicate daily with supervisor to report achievements, progress, and problems. Actively
report any quality control issues or problems identified in the building to the Supervisor, and if
possible, make appropriate recommendations to solve the matter. Recognize when assistance,
training, and direction are needed so that work objectives are accomplished in a safe, complete,
efficient, and timely manner. Alert the supervisor to these situations and assist as needed.
