JOB TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION SPECIALIZED CLASSROOM TEACHER (MILD/MODERATE)              

CALENDAR: 1960 (NEW TEACHERS) 1961 (RETURNING TEACHERS)

SALARY: CERTIFIED TEACHER

 

 ** May be eligible for up to a $5,000 Special Education Stipend**

 

Job Goal:

The Specialized Classroom Teacher guides students toward achieving their full potential by transforming district curriculum standards into engaging and meaningful learning experiences. Through effective instruction and specialized assignments, the teacher promotes academic growth and personal development. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • SEI endorsement coursework completed
  • Appropriate approved areas/ endorsements may be required, depending on the area of instruction
  • Knowledge of computer applications
  • Programming Options and Certification:
    • Mild/Moderate (MiID)
    • Severe/Profound (MoID)
    • Emotional Disabilities
    • Hearing Impaired
    • Vision Impaired

Core Job Functions:

  • Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs of students based on their skills, abilities, and unique circumstances
  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and/or objectives contained within each student’s IEP
  • Create a weekly lesson plan describing daily learning experiences correlated with the aims and/or objectives in the curriculum guide and/or course outline
  • Monitor and assess student progress to provide ongoing feedback, report quarterly progress, and report annual progress on IEP goals
  • Maintain both paper and electronic student records
  • Complete duties as Service Coordinator for students assigned to individual workload (to include IEP paperwork, quarterly progress reports, data collection, parent communication, collaboration with team members, attendance)
  • Identify and address specific student needs, and seek assistance from the site department chair
  • Communicate using organized, clear, and precise language
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing the development of proper student behavior
  • Use effective behavior management strategies when working with students identified with disabilities to provide interventions and develop behavior intervention plans
  • Develop and adhere to a class schedule addressing instructional periods, breaks, and participation in inclusive activities
  • Create educational experiences that provide each student the opportunity to develop his/her potential in both academic and functional areas
  • Promote and follow approved school district philosophy, policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students identified with disabilities
  • Assume legal responsibility for the supervision of students on school property or in attendance at school-sponsored activities
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
  • Assume individual responsibilities which may be assigned by the principal/supervisor and which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision, or other planning and professional assignments
  • Maintain accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce concepts and skills
  • Use effective strategies for the management of behavior
  • Attend parent conferences as requested
  • Basic Knowledge of computers, software, and applications
  • Participate in department and school meetings
  • Participate in District and school initiatives
  • Meet additional job requirements as indicated by the District or site administration

Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this classification often require physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and sitting.

  • Employees may be exposed to travel, odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, and loud noises.
  • The work may require lifting or exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
