Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical competence during project execution
- Help in the design and implementation of control systems
- Working knowledge of electrical safety from low voltage (<48V) DC circuits up to 3 phase 480VAC
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Ensure all construction and components meet UL requirements
- Create and document test procedures for standard and customized work
- Instruct and train test technicians to test procedures
- Review and evaluate customer-provided documentation for functional and construction concerns
- Assist CAD/Engineering to develop Motor, Instrument and I/O List from project P&IDs
- Review and approve Cates designed schematics and layouts for functionality, manufacturability, and accuracy
- Assist in component selection to ensure compliance with construction and standard requirements, create bill of materials or key hardware list to meet application requirements
- Learn and follow company Quality Management System
- Identify risk in a design or the manufacturing of that design
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 5 Years of relevant experience required
- AC-DC circuits: Needs a fundamental knowledge of AC-DC circuits and the difference between the two. This person needs to understand Kirchhoff’s law and apply it to power and control circuits.
- Ohms and Watt’s Law: Needs to know how to calculate simple and advanced circuit calculations for industrial control panel needs.
- NEC and UL508A: Needs to have the ability to look up and understand NEC and UL508A rules and apply them to industrial control panels. NEC and UL508A will also need to be used in electrical design of power and control circuits. Wiring sizing, component selection, and component uses are also required.
- PLC: Needs to understand PLC hardware and programming from a variety of manufacturers.
- Motor Controls and Automation: Needs to understand advanced motor controls and automation systems. Troubleshooting improperly working circuits is required. A firm understanding about closed loop control and individual components in that loop is also needed.
- Process controller programming and setup is also required. Must be able to read sequence of operations for timers and counters and apply them to control panels.
- AC and DC drives: Needs an advanced knowledge of AC and DC drives. Basic and advanced setup of various drives is required.
- Motors: Needs to understand how different AC, DC, and servo motors work.
- Intermediate computer skills, establishing industrial communications with various industrial control products is required.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate panel construction documentation.
- Ability to configure components for test and operational sequence.
- Electrical training (school, electrician, training courses).
- NFPA 70 (NEC) Training Course or equivalent job experience.
- UL 508A Training Course or equivalent job experience.
- Strong communications skills with ability to work with diverse teams and mentor coworkers and pass your knowledge along to others.
- Ability to move quickly back and forth between multiple tasks and set priorities.
