About the Program and Position:
The Family Support Program (FSP) serves families that have a child/children at risk of foster care placement, or who are in need of intensive therapeutic service. The Family Support Program partners with families in their homes for 4-6 months and provides therapy 1-2 times a week.
This program makes a difference by reducing the risk of removal, and reducing reports received by child protective services. The Family Support Worker’s role is to work with families and individuals within the family to identify parental and youth strengths. They also support the family’s efforts to create a stronger family goal to advance a stable and nurturing family environment.
How you get to use your skills…
Carry a full caseload of 10 families as assigned.
Provide home-based, trauma focused case management support and/or crisis interventions to individuals and families both as primary and back-up support.
Actively participate as part of a team of service providers and others with focus on well-coordinated services for family members.
Assist individuals and families by actively referring them to appropriate long-term services and support.
Assist the families with any and all tasks needed to stabilize them with the intention of modeling and teaching basic life skills to empower individuals and families to become self-sufficient.
Assist with supervised visitation for families on assigned caseload.
Compile and maintain all necessary records, forms and reports
Schedule:
Regular hours vary, must be able to flex schedule to meet program needs.
On-call rotation required
Experience and Skills:
Master’s degree in social work, counseling, education or other human services profession required
Knowledge of family systems theory and home-based interventions required
Experience in both home-based and out-of-home family and children’s services preferred
Excellent writing and communication skills
Ability and willingness to work with families in an "in-home" context
Ability to internalize and work within the general "Home Builders" philosophy and program model
Ability to engage families who may not want the service or who are mandated
NYS Driver’s License required
Vehicle required: Must be safe and dependable
Willingness to drive to and from appointments with your own vehicle.
Willingness to transport clients in personal vehicle on an as needed basis
Computer work requires sitting at a desk for long periods of time
Time on your feet for up to several hours a day
Lifting up to 50 pounds
Time driving and/or taking public transportation to conduct client and family visits
- Pay ranges:
- Masters degree: $58,500 - $73,600/annually
- LMSW, LMFT, LMHC, LCAT: $64,000 - $73,600/annually
- LCSW: $72,000 - $82,800/annually
120 hours of vacation
