What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant position at CDC Foundation?

The CDC Foundation seeks a full-time Research Assistant to support epidemiologic and surveillance activities to reduce maternal mortality. The Research Assistant will work closely with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct a sustainability evaluation of a program implemented in Tanzania to improve access, quality and demand for maternal and reproductive health services. The Research Assistant will support the analysis and dissemination of multiple activities to identify successful elements of the intervention model to improve maternal and reproductive health services to inform other countries in similar remote, low-resource settings.


The Research Assistant will primarily support the preparation of technical reports documenting the changes in quality of emergency obstetric and neonatal care, maternal and neonatal care, pregnancy outcomes and maternal morbidity and mortality. The Research Assistant will also support the development of manuscripts, as well as preparation with the training and dissemination materials. Additionally, the Research Assistant may be asked to support other project activities as needed.


This is an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health. The Research Assistant will be hired by the CDC Foundation and assigned to National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Division of Reproductive Health, Field Support Branch. The length of the assignment is through March 31, 2025.


This position is based in Atlanta, GA and relocation expenses are not provided.

Responsibilities
  • Support analyses to improve understanding of existing information, including cultural or structural factors, to understand the challenges and facilitators to providing high quality facility-based delivery and family planning services in health facilities.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures and data management tools to organize and track progress of data collection activities.
  • Support the development of reports, scientific articles and other dissemination materials that communicate scientific findings from evaluation activities.
  • Compete administrative tasks such as setting up meetings, taking and summarizing meeting minutes and documenting progress towards deliverables.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in epidemiology, public health or closely related disciplines is required.
  • Experience in data management and analysis with programs such as SAS, R or STATA.
  • Highly detail oriented, works well within a diverse team, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility adapt to shifting priorities, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner and able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing and editing complex documents such as detailed reports and peer-reviewed articles.
  • Sound judgment and maturity exemplified by consistent professionalism in dealing with individuals at all levels both internally and externally
