Cecil College is centrally located in Maryland’s most northeastern county, just one half mile from Interstate 95. It is easily accessible from Philadelphia and Baltimore, as well as from Wilmington, Delaware.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Senior Director of Information Technology, the Information Security Analyst is responsible for auditing, designing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining security systems to protect our computing infrastructure and its users from cyber-attacks. The incumbent must ensure that all systems, applications and networks are secure and resilient to security exploits, and meet industry standard security specifications.
Given the interaction with employees, and college community, this position requires an in person presence. The position may be eligible for telework. See scheduling requirements below.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Monitor computer networks for security issues
- Investigate security breaches and other cyber security incidents
- Install security measures and operate software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls and data encryption programs
- Document security breaches and assess the damage they cause
- Work with Information Security Team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities
- Fix detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard
- Stay current on IT security trends and news
- Develop company-wide best practices for IT security
- Perform penetration testing
- Audit user permissions/roles for College systems
- Help colleagues install security software and understand information security management
- Research security enhancements and make recommendations to management
- Stay up-to-date on information technology trends and security standards
- IT security training
- Work with team members as needed to ensure the security of College wide databases.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Associates degree in Cybersecurity or other Computer Science related field required.
- Experience: 1-2 years experience in cybersecurity.
- Skills/Training: Understanding of networking, firewalls, antivirus, SIEM, and intrusion prevention and detection required.
- Proficiencies: Demonstrated abilities to coordinate multiple schedules, assess priorities, and meet deadlines; must exhibit excellent communication and writing/composition skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and proficiency in problem-solving
- Scheduling Requirements: Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 4:30. Given the need for interaction with students, employees, and the college community this position requires in-person presence. During critical periods schedule can vary sometimes requiring evening, Saturday, and Sunday work hours dependent on the needs of the department. The position may be eligible for telework options as determined by the supervisor and/or designee.
- Physical Demands: Most of the position is sedentary. Requires frequent use of computer and repetitive hand motions for computer use.
