Job Overview:
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Correctional Nurses to join our healthcare teams across multiple facilities in New York. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in a correctional setting, you will provide essential healthcare services to inmates, ensuring they receive proper medical care, treatment, and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals, including assessment, treatment, and education on various medical issues.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up.
- Monitor and manage patients with chronic conditions, ensuring appropriate interventions and care plans are in place.
- Perform health assessments and physical exams, identifying both acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Provide emergency care and first aid when needed, including responding to medical emergencies in the facility.
- Assist with the management of communicable diseases, infection control, and preventive care programs.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records in compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for each patient.
- Educate inmates on health issues, including disease prevention, wellness, and self-care.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of RN nursing experience, with preference for those with correctional or healthcare setting experience.
- Certification: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
- Skills:
- Strong clinical skills and ability to make sound nursing judgments in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures, chronic disease management, and emergency nursing care.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
