JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Career Path Assistant
Reports To: Director of Adult Education
Positions Reporting To: Not Applicable
Status: Non-exempt
OVERVIEW:
Will work alongside Adult Learning Center Instructors and WorkOne counselors to help students prepare for post-secondary education including vocational/skill training or college and/or employment; gain a greater understanding of high wage/high demand careers, and strengthen their understanding and importance work readiness and lifelong learning. In addition, will perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students. Serves in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the academic design and implementation. Coordinate with teacher to embed and implement student career plan and work readiness instruction.
DUTIES:
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts between academic and career / work readiness
- Advise individual students about career choices and training opportunities and provide follow up services with students
- Present subject matter to students and counsel about career choices under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods
- Connecting students with WorkOne advisors in order to access resources for post- secondary school preparation
- Observe students' performance and record relevant data to assess progress
- Take class attendance and maintain attendance records
- Attend staff meetings and professional development activities as required
- Assist in grading homework and tests, compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Ability to use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations and assist in facilitating in person or zoom remote instruction.
- In conjunction with CWI administration and center teachers, assist in promoting and developing community partnership and maintain a current knowledge of community resource to assist students with any barriers that may impede their academic and/or career success
- Ability to develop with student a career plan to include goals, barriers, and timeline.
- Ability to connect students with resources for post-secondary school preparation and career planning
- Ability to maintain community partnerships and possess a current knowledge of community resources to assist students with any barriers that may impede their academic and/or career success
- Assist in promoting and coordinating WorkIN training, WIN Essential Skill Training, and
Integrated Education Training
- Assist in promoting and coordinating with WorkOne partners for student referral, case load review, training or job placement
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Parapro Certification a plus
- Two years or more in public education, public service, or similar occupation
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Travel may be required within the region (NWI), to Indianapolis and elsewhere for project work or training. Ability to travel, have a valid driver’s license and insurance coverage of
$100,000/$300,000.
- The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
