What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness and Activities Camp Coordinator position at Centerville-Washington Park District?
Fitness and Activities Coordinators train and supervise a staff of (three) Fitness and Activities Camp Counselors and supervise volunteers. Additionally, they oversee the operation of the ACtivity Squad Camp (ages 8-15, depending on session) and ACtivity Squad Junior Camp (ages 3-7, depending on session). Most weeks offer an option for campers to attend either a morning or afternoon half-day camp session.
SCHEDULE
- 40 hours/week, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., May 13 – August 9
- May 29 (Memorial Day) is not a work day.
- July 4 and July 27 are required work days.
- Additional hours as requested/assigned, including evenings and/or weekends.
- This schedule is subject to change, at the discretion of the Park District.
Up to five days off may be requested off, priority is given if done so by May 31. Time off requests will be considered in the order they are received. Exceptions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 to apply.
- Must have reliable transportation and also have proven leadership/supervisory experience.
- Must have a strong interest in working with participants and peers of all ages while spending time outdoors.
JOB DESCRIPTION
SPECIFIC DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
Administrative
- Maintain accurate records regarding ACtivity Squad and ACtivity Squad Junior camps and participant comments.
- Organize and distribute necessary supplies to staff each day.
- Prepare a weekly schedule of volunteers and staff.
- Prepare written evaluations of the programs and camps.
Programming
- Supervise daily operation of camp.
- Assist with conducting camp orientation at the beginning of each new session.
- Plan, prepare and conduct weekly camp morning meetings.
- Greet campers on Mondays each week, assist with check in and field parent questions.
- Motivate and encourage staff to continue to perform at an elevated level throughout the summer
- Assist with running activities during the camp day as needed, particularly for involved games or times when alternate activities are needed.
- Oversee the transition between the morning and afternoon half-day camps assisting as needed, particularly with clean up, swapping supplies, set up, check out/check in, etc.
Public Relations
- Serve as a public relations liaison with the community.
- Maintain an atmosphere of cooperation and camaraderie between program participants and staff.
GENERAL DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Attend all staff training sessions including CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Ensure the safety of all campers by maintaining a safe, clean, and controlled environment.
- Enforce and follow all park rules and regulations.
- Coordinate the daily set-up of and breakdown of camp needs and supplies.
- Coordinate, organize and set up all daily equipment distribution with staff.
- Perform basic first aid, as necessary.
- Ability to commit to working Monday – Friday during summer camp hours for the entire summer.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience working with children ages 3-15 years old.
- Supervisory experience.
- A strong interest and/or knowledge in environmental education.
JOB FIT
