What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of OTC position at Central Aroostook Association?
The Assistant Director of OTC will play a key leadership role, supporting the Director in overseeing daily operations, curriculum development, and staff management. This position involves fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment and ensuring adherence to applicable policies. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with educators, parents, and external partners to drive student success and maintain high standards of educational quality. Additional responsibilities include overseeing compliance with regulatory standards and supporting professional development for staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Track and monitor absences of students for truancy reporting.
Attend team meetings of students as needed to assist in the writing of the Individual -Educational Plan for the student.
Communicate as needed with parents and report any pertinent information that comes up during a routine day.
Assist in planning, working, and cleaning up for special activities such as dances, parties, Special Olympics, graduation, etc.
Assist in researching, planning, and organizing when new programs are implemented for the whole school, such as revision of the curriculum guidelines, family life education, etc.
Protect the health, safety, and wellbeing of the students, including but not limited to administering a physical restraint to protect the student and others from harm.
Provide supervision to the teachers, classroom leads, ed techs, and therapists including at least 1 hour of classroom observation for each classroom per week.
Assists with reviewing and managing timekeeping for OTC staff.
Correspond with special education directors and other designated school personnel
Administer state-wide and district assessments.
Assist with compiling annual school approval packet.
Compile and update information in the Synergy system for the student enrollment and the NEO/MEIS system for the staff.
Explore school-year curriculum needs.
Assist with Title I and II-A documentation and resource submittal information.
Oversee school lunch and summer feed programs.
Assist with supervision of staff during school-year and summer programs.
Assist in planning, organizing and set-up for in-service days for staff.
Participate as a member of ADSEC (performing duties assigned)
Assist with compiling student/parent handbook annually
Complete Vineland Assessment scoring.
Complete purchase orders for Director review.
Administer ParaPro assessment to staff as needed.
Help staff set up MEIS account with the DOE
Responsible for some teaching as needed
Performs duties of OTC Director in their absence.

- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the management of teachers, classroom leads, and ed techs. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include but are not limited to training staff on proper documentation, planning, assigning and directing work, addressing complaints, resolving problems, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and direct care as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION:
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:
- At least three years of experience working with students with developmental disabilities who have varying abilities and behaviors is preferred.
- At least two years of experience in a supervisory role preferred.
- Ability and willingness to manage emotional or physical emergencies that can arise.
- Ability to work on a team, sharing responsibilities with co-workers, accepting direction from supervisors, and contributing ideas.
- Ability to safely accompany individuals into the community.
- Ability and willingness to assist individuals with all aspects of toileting and hygiene skills.
- Ability to pass all required trainings, as specified by the program.
Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, social work, or related field required.
- 030 Certification through the Maine State Department of Education preferred
- NCLB Highly Qualified Status
- CPR/First Aid - within three months
- Safety Care Training - within three months
- Must maintain a valid State of Maine Driver’s License and be insurable by Central Aroostook Association’s insurance carrier.
