What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Program Director - YMCA Camp Hi-Rock position at CENTRAL CONNECTICUT COAST YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION INC?
Program Directors directly supervise and effectively lead the unit staff and those programmatic aspects of Resident Camp that are not under the direct supervision of an Area Director. Program Directors provide a safe and nurturing environment for campers and staff and are actively involved with a positive attitude about all camp activities.
ESSENTAIL FUNCTIONS:
- Actively participate in and lead portions of Administrative Staff Training and All Staff Training.
- Inform the Inclusion Specialist and/or Camp Director of any camper or staff problems, issues, or concerns.
- Ensure unit staff are enforcing and following all rules and are fulfilling all of their assigned duties.
- Formally evaluate unit staff twice during the season and assist them in setting and meeting goals.
- Correct and document, as necessary, situations that endanger the emotional or physical safety of any person.
- Plan and oversee Camper Reports, campers changing Coaching Periods, wake up call, meals, flag raising/lowering, announcements, Sign-Ons, Sign-On Skits, Opening Campfire, Key Log and Candlelight Ceremonies, Weekend and Evening Programs, staffing for emergency medical transportation, and other events with staff as appropriate.
- Ensure the Program Office is kept clean.
- Coordinate with Conference and Training, Area, Day Camp, and Adventure Directors to assure a smooth season.
- Plan for and provide an atmosphere of high staff morale.
- Maintain Zen and Tag Call Books and distribute attendance sheets and other paperwork on time.
- Approve all lesson plans not overseen by an Area Director and monitor teaching quality.
- Schedule staff assignments, time off, Unit Night Out, Unit On Duty, Changeover Weekends, Lifeguard Schedules, Kapers, Cabin/Unit Activities, and other events.
- Participate in Administrator On Duty and provide unit coverage as assigned.
- Plan rainy day activities in advance of their need.
- Demonstrate and teach the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to all campers and staff.
- Follow all camp rules and regulations and enforce them among peers.
- Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.
- Submit all required paperwork and an End of the Year Report on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
