What are the responsibilities and job description for the 9-1-1 Fire and EMS Call Taker / Dispatcher position at Central County Emergency 911?

Central County Emergency 911 provides Fire and EMS dispatching services for the vast majority of St. Louis County, Missouri, as well as portions of Franklin and Jefferson Counties.

We are currently seeking 911 Call Takers and Dispatchers who will talk to the public to gather information about their emergency, dispatch Fire and/or EMS units, enter data into CAD, and monitor multiple radio channels. (Applicants selected for employment will start as a Call Taker and will have the opportunity to advance to the Dispatcher position.)

Central County is creating a hiring list for future openings. There are several phases of the hiring process which include skill testing, job shadowing, interviewing, background checking and drug testing.

Qualifications Needed for Success:

  • Dedication to Excellence and Ability Provide a Consistently High Level of Customer Service
  • Ability to Calmly Communicate with the Public When They are Upset and Stressed Due to a Crisis
  • Desire to Work as Part of a High Functioning Team Combined with Independent Work
  • Strong Attention to Details and Ability to Multi-Task
  • Minimum Typing Speed of 30 Wpm
  • Available to Work 12-Hour Shifts (Includes Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays)
  • Available for Mandatory Overtime (as needed)
  • Ability to Sit for Long Periods of Time. Standing Desks are Available.
  • Prior Fire and/or Emergency Medical Dispatching Experience is a Plus, But Not Required
  • Minimum of 18 Years of Age
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent
