Looking to hire a part time Sterilization Technician to work in the Dental Department of CJMC located in Perth Amboy, NJ.
Location: Perth Amboy
Duties may include the following but not limited to:
- Prepares and assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing (such as sterilization).
- Instruments are inspected for cleanliness, proper functioning and damage by viewing the instruments before assembly.
- Appropriate judgment is used to identify the different parts of basic instruments.
- Appropriate judgment is used to identify proper usage of instrumentation.
- Appropriate judgment is used to repair and replace instrumentation.
- Service/tray specific write-ups are followed to assemble/label instruments/sets.
- Appropriate placement and/or protection of delicate instruments are demonstrated.
- Like instruments are packaged and labeled in appropriate sized peel pack.
- Priorities are established in order to meet deadlines for processing instrument sets.
- Ability to complete instrument sets is appropriately demonstrated.
- Monitors, reads, documents, and interprets all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
- Internal, external and biological monitoring systems are utilized appropriately.
- Parameters for all types of sterilizers are monitored, read, documented and interpreted to ensure proper functioning.
- Instruments and surgical trays are sterilized by following prescribed policies and procedures.
- Effective communication is maintained with peers, management and between shifts.
- Sterilization records are reviewed for accuracy.
- Cleans and decontaminates reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies, manually and mechanically (Hand Washing, Washer/Sterilizer, Ultrasonic Cleaner, Scope Washer, Cart Washer).
- Universal Precautions are followed through wearing the appropriate protective attire while working in the decontamination area.
- Equipment is decontaminated, disassembled, cleaned and routed to appropriate holding areas while keeping a continuous flow of equipment moving through the process.
- Appropriate cleaning detergents and agents are utilized through following manufacturer directions and referring to the MSDS sheet.
- Contaminated items are handled appropriately while following universal precautions.
- All reusable items are decontaminated, terminally sterilized, and cleaned and disposable items are discarded appropriately.
- Participates in the coordination of all aspects of department’s services.
- Rapid response to emergency situations is provided as necessary.
- Able to perform all tasks of Sterile Processing Technician position.
- Departmental supplies are ordered.
- Serves as the resource for information for employees and customers.
- Communications are maintained with all team members to be sure all pertinent information is shared in a timely manner.
- All departmental, Medical Center and safety policies and procedures are well understood and followed.
- Policies and procedures are explained to Medical Center staff as necessary and appropriate.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduate from an accredited Technical School. IAHCSMM-CRCST certification or equivalent to CSPDT
Skills and Abilities: Requires a comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting techniques and procedures for all phases of general dentistry. Knowledge of modern dental materials, their storage, handling and applications is required. The Sterilization Technician must be cognizant of the expectations and concerns of the center’s dental patients and be able to respond in an empathetic and professional manner. The ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds is necessary. The Sterilization Technician must be able to creatively work with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal results for the center’s patient from a system of integrated primary health care.
Typical Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand eye coordination normally associated with dental assisting in general practice dentistry will be performed on a repetitive basis. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals and copiers is required. Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.
