TITLE:    Learning Support Teacher – Secondary - LTS

 

REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY:  Building Principal, Supervisor of Special Education

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-time bargaining unit position – 10-month work year; FLSA Exempt.

 

ANTICIPATED START DATE: 9/18/2025 to 2/17/2026

 

HOURS: 7.5 hours per day

 

LOCATION: Central Middle School 

 

COMPENSATION: In accordance with PEA Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:  The secondary learning support teacher is responsible for writing, implementing and monitoring progress of IEP’s, including behavior goals, for students with learning and/or emotional disabilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Create and execute Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for students with learning and/or emotional disabilities.
  2. Assist with effective implementation of IEPs and 504 plans of identified students.
  3. Work cooperatively with the principal, subject supervisors and other staff members to develop an integrated educational program for students.
  4. Assess the attitudes, skills and abilities of students for effective teaching and learning each marking period as well as on an annual basis.
  5. Provide meaningful, learning experiences for assigned groups of students, including differentiated instruction, to meet individual needs of students.
  6. Properly refer to the IST process those students experiencing unusual difficulties.
  7. Maintain a plan book as directed by the principal and submit plan book for review upon request. Have daily plans readily available for the use of a substitute in the event of absence.
  8. Evaluate and record student’s progress and attendance as a basis for planning and reporting to parents.
  9. Maintain acceptable standards of discipline in the classroom which promotes learning and supports the school-wide discipline plans.
  10. Provide immediate care and protect injured students until the services of the nurse or other medical personnel are available. Follow building’s safety-emergency management plan.
  11. Perform additional duties such as lunchroom, bus, or recess as required.
  12. Maintain and extend professional knowledge and skills through activities such as graduate study, participation in staff development, professional reading and other appropriate activities as defined in the District’s Act 48 Plan.
  13. Support school programs and maintain a high standard of ethical professional conduct when dealing with associates, parents and other members of the community.
  14. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

 

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree; Pennsylvania Teacher Certification – Special Education

  • School Personnel Health Form (Physical and TB test)
  • PDE 6004 Form (Act 24)
  • Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form(s) (Act 168)

SEDENTARY:  involves sitting most of the time.  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

 

LIGHT WORK:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

 

MEDIUM WORK:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

 

HEAVY WORK:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 75 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.

 

VERY HEAVY WORK:  The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
