Director of Academics Job Description
The Director of Academics is a pivotal leadership role within our K-12 Charter School, responsible for overseeing the academic program and ensuring the delivery of high-quality education to all students. This individual will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and the community to foster a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement. This position reports directly to CAO.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with faculty to design and integrate innovative teaching strategies and instructional resources.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to support instructional improvement.
- Collaborate with school leadership to develop and execute a strategic plan for academic achievement and school growth.
- Assist with developing and implementing academic policies and procedures that support the school’s mission and goals.
- Serve on the committee writing and editing charter school renewals, new school openings applications, and annual reports.
- Coordinate and participate in creating and reviewing new academic policies and procedures.
- Assist with planning and supervising training for teachers, test coordinators, district staff, and administrators on the requirements of the state and district assessment programs.
- Monitor all schools during the administration of district and state assessments.
- Collaborate with administration and staff to identify areas for improving student achievement, including designing and implementing a comprehensive student assessment system, reviewing student data results, and determining staff needs.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and mentoring to teachers to improve instructional practices.
- Encourage and support innovative teaching practices and programs that enhance student learning and engagement.
- Evaluate programs/activities related to student data and learning, instructional effectiveness, curriculum development, and implementation fidelity.
- Participate in drafting grants, proposals, and reports, including writing and developing program goals and objectives and evaluating effectiveness.
- Oversee the development and implementation of special programs, such as gifted and talented education, special education, 504, and ESL programs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
- A master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership, with a track record of success in curriculum development and instructional supervision, is required.
- Proven experience in a K-16 educational setting
