Summary:
This is an entry-level position with opportunities for growth and career advancement. The next position level is Process Attendant with a wage rate of $34.61 per hour. The Utility Operator provides general labor services in the plant and mine, handles materials, operates equipment, and performs basic repairs to ensure smooth plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide general labor services as needed in the plant and mine.

Store, stock, and handle all materials including but not limited to fuel, rock, clinker, and cement.

Operate mobile equipment, cement loading, shipping, reclaim, and transfer equipment.

Perform basic repairs to facilitate plant operation.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Comply with all company safety policies and MSHA regulations at all times.
- Operate mobile equipment.
- Operate cement loading, shipping, reclaim, and transfer equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on mobile equipment.
- Perform inventory measurements and reporting as required.
- Perform immediate basic repairs to facilitate plant operation.
- Ensure good housekeeping for a safe and efficient operation.
- Assist other departments as needed.
- Work with little or no supervision.
- Contribute to daily reports and other routine reports about special projects or incidents.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned. Work any shifts, including weekends and paid holidays as schedules dictate.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Ability to perform physical labor, good communication skills, and ability to meet job requirements and essential functions.
- Knowledge in mobile equipment operations, troubleshooting, work order procedures, cement manufacturing equipment, and mechanical/electrical ability is a plus.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Communicate effectively with fellow workers and supervisors.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to convert from standard to metric or metric to standard units.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited guidelines exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and extreme heat.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.
