What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Success position at Central State University?

The full-time Director of Student-Athlete Success position reports to the Associate AD for Internal Operations and responsibilities include, but are not limited to creating and implementing detailed plans of action for student-athletes considered academically at-risk, coordinating team study hall, organizing, and implementing individualized academic plans, developing, and assessing academic advising services need by CSU student-athletes as such services relate to NCAA progress towards degree requirements and established institutional requirements, participate in NCAA eligibility certification. This position also creates connections between student-athletes, staff, and university services. Oversees initiatives by regularly researching new and innovative ways to enhance and contribute to the personal development, transferable life skills, and holistic growth of the student-athletes, positioning them for success in their experiences beyond the playing field. Developing programs with particular attention to historically underserved populations including low-income, first generation, underrepresented students of color, veterans and military affiliated, rural students, and students with different abilities/disabilities. Responsible to the SWA for maintaining records and fulfilling NCAA and campus requests/reporting requirements. Responsible for supervising SAAC and serving on the mental health task force.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to coordinate student-athlete events.
  • Ability to obtain such knowledge of the best practices, procedures, and activities for the University, Undergraduate Studies, and intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Ability to evaluate NCAA Eligibility.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to cultivate relationships with students, faculty, and staff and be passionate about the student-athlete experience.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Computer/Technological skills, able to work with a diverse group of people with various backgrounds, education levels, and cultural differences.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and SAAC rules and regulations. Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Sport Administration or related field required.
  • 1-2 years experience in an Athletic Academic office on a college campus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills .
  • Knowledge of NCAA and SAAC rules and regulations.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Sport Administration, or related field preferred with at least 2 years of experience working with Student-Athletes at a Division I institution.
