Central Texas Heart Center is looking for a detail-oriented team player to join our team as a medical support assistant. The responsibilities of the medical support assistant include maintaining and recording medical data in patient files, handling prior authorizations for medication and medication refills, patient assistance forms for financial assistance for high-cost medications, process incoming emails from patients and answering phones.
This position is considered a "back office" clinical position.
A successful medical support assistant should have excellent communication skills, administrative and data entry skills, knowledge of medical terminology and prescription medications, and work well in a team environment.
Medical Support Assistant Responsibilities :
- Answering phone calls and emails and delivering messages to staff members through the EHR.
- Maintaining patient electronic health records and updating their medical data and personal information.
- Process and complete patient assistance forms, manually and / or electronically, for high-cost medications.
- Process and complete prior authorizations for new prescriptions or prescription refills and update the medication list in the patient's EHR.
- Verify patient demographics and health insurance plans.
- Process emails from patients and distribute to the appropriate team member through the EHR.
- Assist other team members with scanning and indexing of documents, and chart prep.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor.
Medical Support Assistant Requirements :
- High school diploma or GED.
- Certification, such as a Certified Medication Aide, Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Pharmacy Tech or similar, may be advantageous, but not required.
- Experience and knowledge of prescription medications, including formulary and generic brands.
- Minimum of one years' experience working in a health care office or other health care setting, as a clinical team member.
- Administrative experience and basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR / EHR) and scheduling skills. Experience in eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Basic computer skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
This position is a full-time position, Monday - Thursday 8 : 00am - 5 : 00pm, and on Friday 8 : 00am to 12 : 00pm.
