Yard Lead
The Yard Lead is responsible for overseeing daily livestock yard operations, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of cattle in compliance with company policies, USDA regulations, and animal welfare standards. This role involves coordinating yard staff activities, managing livestock flow to the processing floor, and ensuring proper animal care, pen maintenance, and employee safety.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of yard crew members, ensuring all tasks are performed efficiently and safely.
- Monitor and direct cattle movement, including unloading, sorting, pen placement, and staging for processing.
- Ensure compliance with humane handling guidelines and all regulatory requirements (e.g., USDA, OSHA).
- Conduct daily inspections of pens, water systems, and overall yard conditions to maintain cleanliness, safety, and proper animal welfare.
- Communicate with plant operations and livestock procurement teams to ensure accurate cattle inventory and timely delivery to processing areas.
- Assist in training yard staff on cattle handling techniques, safety procedures, and company protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including livestock counts, pen assignments, and movement records.
- Oversee the maintenance and proper use of yard equipment, gates, and vehicles.
- Respond promptly to any incidents involving animal health, equipment failure, or employee safety.
- Act as a point of contact between yard workers and management, ensuring operational issues are reported and resolved promptly.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and environments (heat, cold, mud).
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle physical tasks related to cattle movement.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment with livestock.
