What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Navigator position at Central Virginia Community College?
The College Navigator plays a vital role in supporting students from initial inquiry through enrollment. This position provides high-touch, personalized guidance and services to help prospective and new students successfully transition to CVCC. The Navigator helps students navigate admissions, financial aid, course selection, and other early college processes while promoting academic and personal success.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive, student-focused professional who understands the unique challenges faced by new and returning college students. The College Navigator is part of a collaborative team dedicated to increasing enrollment, improving retention, and supporting students in achieving their educational goals.
Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective and incoming students.
- Guide students through the application, onboarding, financial aid, and enrollment processes.
- Assist students in identifying appropriate programs of study and academic pathways.
- Evaluate students’ college readiness and provide appropriate referrals or interventions.
Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and student services to support student success.
- Promote CVCC to potential students, families, and community partners through outreach and engagement.
- Refer students to college or community resources for academic, financial, or personal support.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions and monitor student progress.
- Support college-wide initiatives to improve student retention and completion.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Experience advising or mentoring students
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience in a helping profession or student-focused role.
- Master’s degree.
- Experience advising or mentoring students in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft or similar student information systems.
