Supervisor Laboratory

Overview

The Supervisory Laboratory under the direction of the Lab Director, plans, directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of the Lab. Works within the department to operationalize the department's service goals and objectives. Performs laboratory procedures using computerized instrumentation and manual methods.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory testing of blood and body fluid specimens using automated analyzers and computers as well as manual methods.
• Develops/Implements Performance Improvement Plan for section and achieves desired results.
• Receives satisfactory evaluation of performance of policies and procedures by all evaluating agencies.
• Evaluates and implements new methods.
• Oversees maintenance of laboratory instrumentation according to manufacturers' operation manuals and lab procedure manuals.
• Reports lab results to physicians or nursing units as appropriate.
• Distributes, collates and evaluates CAP proficiency surveys.
• Prepares the department schedule.
• Maintains inventory and orders department supplies as necessary.
• Is accessible to the laboratory as needed for on-site, telephone or electronic consultation.
• Resolves technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the Medical director.
• Ensures remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the lab’s established performance specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or other laboratory science required
• 3 Years Laboratory Services required
• ASCP registration preferred
• Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team
