What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Surgery Assistant position at Champaign County Humane Society?
The Champaign County Humane Society seeks a dependable and hardworking individual for the Surgery Assistant position. This is a full-time position, $16.50 per hour with benefits. Primary responsibilities include: surgery preparation; monitoring of animals while under anesthesia and post-op; cleaning and preparation of surgery packs; performing physical exams/vaccinations; administering medications; venipuncture; microchipping; and working closely with the public for low cost spay/neuter appointments. This position includes data entry and requires a very organized and detail-oriented individual. The position also requires good communication/interpersonal skills. The Surgery Assistant works closely with the Shelter Manager, Shelter Veterinarian, and Medical Lab Supervisor. Experience with animal handling and/or working in an animal shelter or veterinary setting is required.
