What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Inspector position at Chandler Industries?

Chandler Industries, a precision machining and sheet metal fabricating company with 4 divisions in Minnesota along with a facility in Mexico, is looking for a Quality Inspector to join our team. This position will be located in our new facility, located in Wyoming, Minnesota.

This position is responsible for performing quality inspection and testing on materials, parts, components, and product that is received, in-process, and finished per customer, company, and regulatory requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Using work instructions, job travelers, blueprints, engineer drawings and specifications; inspects, checks, and tests materials, parts, components, and product during various stages of production including receiving, in-process, and finished.
  • Selects and maintains the appropriate tools, gauges, scales, and equipment for the feature or characteristic required to perform inspection and testing.
  • Checks and monitors materials and equipment to verify calibration status.
  • Assists in troubleshooting of product processes.
  • Perform visual inspection for conformance.
  • Accurately documents and records inspection or test data, such as weights, dimensions, resistance, and quantities inspected, accepted, and rejected.
  • Processes and maintains quality records to maintain accountability, acceptance, and status.
  • Verifies documentation for compliance to established procedures.
  • Supports and assists quality improvement teams, engineers, and operations to resolve problem issues and improve quality.
  • Assists the supplier quality initiatives to facilitate corrective and preventative action relative to supplier quality problems and source inspection issues.
  • Maintains an organized, clean and safe environment and maintains 5 “S” standards. Complies with safety rules including Personal Protective Equipment and OSHA standards.
  • Participates in Lean initiatives eliminating waste.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Proficient in interpretation of blueprints, engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
  • Proficient with use of calipers, micrometers, indicators, and other basic hand tools used in validation of manufactured and/or purchased product.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Must be able to pass annual visual exam (20-25, corrected, uncorrected, one eye).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Knowledge of computer aided software and their applications.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Cooperative attitude, shares critical information, and remains professional in difficult situations.
  • Self-directed; ability to work independently and within teams.
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All employees must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Additional Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in the Aerospace, Medical or other highly regulated industry.
  • Experience operating a Keyence Vision Inspection System.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • ISO 9001 experience.
