Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for clients by promoting independence, dignity, and personal growth. The DSP will work closely with clients to help them achieve their personal goals while ensuring their safety and well-being in a compassionate and respectful manner.
Duties
- Must be able to lift.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide patient care and support in various settings, ensuring a safe environment for all individuals.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any side effects or changes in condition.
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning to meet dietary needs.
- Engage clients in recreational activities and encourage participation in social events to promote community integration.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress, incidents, and any changes in health status while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with heavy lifting when necessary to ensure the comfort and safety of clients during transfers or mobility assistance.
- Collaborate with team members and healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs.
Skills
- Strong caregiving abilities with a focus on patient care and empathy towards individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of first aid procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Experience in medication administration and understanding of medical terminology.
