What does a Lead Residential Case Worker do?

TheLead Residential Case Workeris responsiblefor the implementation and support of program services and staff. The Lead Residential Case Worker works with the Residential Manager and Program Director to offer additional leadership to staff while overseeing efficiency of theprogram and identifying areas for improvement. Primary job duties include program implementation, leadership and staff guidance, and collaboration with staff and the management team. The Lead Residential Case Worker will be responsible forsupportingan atmosphere that is conduciveto teamwork, self-care and a productive work environment. This position reports directly to the Youth and Family Services Residential Manager.

  • Provide supervision and direction of activities for youth that supports healthy living, social responsibility, and youth leadership
  • Maintain a controlled and safe environment for youth, assist with daily cleaning/sanitization and organization of work space areas
  • Utilize effective de-escalation techniques and interventions while responding to crisis calls, intakes, one-on-one check-ins, and family meetings or mediations
  • Support with daily supervision of youth including meal preparation, transportation to medical appointments, scheduled outings, and uphold the daily schedule
  • Conduct individual and family mediation as needed, demonstrating strong and efficient conflict resolution techniques
  • Assist management in training new staff emphasizing daily tasks, house upkeep, and promoting a team-based care model
  • Utilize program assessments and screening tools in collaboration with each youth to inform priorities of the individual service plan and make appropriate internal and external referrals for services
  • Ensure client records and documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and confidential
  • Keep management and clinical team informed of all legal, ethical, boundary concerns, clinical needs, and desired or identified training opportunities
  • Demonstrate clear and professional boundaries by regularly using discretion and seeking support from management team as it pertains to youth, clients, or staff
  • Support youth to enhance their education, vocation, relationships and communication, independent living skills, physical health, mental health, and more
  • Actively contribute to weekly staff meeting agenda
  • Collaborate with the residential manager to ensure the facility is adequately stocked with food, household, and office supplies
  • Create and maintain weekly meal schedules and assist with shopping duties in compliance with CCL dietary expectations and limitations within the program budget
  • Handle petty cash ethically, responsibly, and within program budget
  • Report all accidents and unusual incidents based on the Channel Islands YMCA incident reporting process within the appropriate time frame to management team and assist with necessary documentation
  • Understand, follow and enforce all YMCA policies regarding safety, including emergency procedures and responding promptly and when necessary
  • Represent the programs of Youth and Family Services at meetings, community events, and conferences
  • Assist Residential Manager to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor by adjusting your schedule to support when needed and to call, offer, and schedule support staff to fill available shifts
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as needed
  • May support other YFS departments with approval from supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications


  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • 2 years related work experience preferred
  • Complete required certifications within 30 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
  • Health Screening Report and negative TB test required prior to first day of employment
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
  • Ability to participate in DMV Pull Program
