Detective, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Police Department

Summary: CMSPD Detectives are responsible for:

• investigating an extensive range of crimes committed on and/or against the properties of the Board of Education and all properties of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools;
• investigating criminal offenses that have been committed against students, staff and the public while on the property of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and the Board of Education;
• conducting criminal investigations of CMS employees;
• creating and presenting educational programs to students, staff and the public on various topics such as Social Media Platform Dangers, School Safety Awareness and Crime Prevention.

CMSPD Detectives collaborate and partner with all law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to local police departments, State and Federal law enforcement and the District Attorney's Office.

Essential Duties:

• Investigate all criminal offenses committed on the property of the Board of Education and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

• Investigate all criminal offenses committed against students, staff and the public while on the property of the Board of Education and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools

• Investigate all criminal allegations of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools employees

• Provide ACTIVE SHOOTER instruction, training and demonstration

• Participate in the Education of students, staff and the public on Safety Awareness and Law Enforcement topics of interest

• Provide security for the Board of Education and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools meetings/events and personnel

• Perform related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Minimum

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• BLET Certification
• NC Driver License

Desirable

• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree
• Experience and training conducting criminal investigations

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

• Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification
• General Instructor Certification and/or Specialized Instructor Certification preferred
