Job Summary
The Special Education Paraprofessional plays a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within a classroom setting. This position involves working closely with special education teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide assistance to students with developmental disabilities, autism, and other learning challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in childhood development and possess skills in classroom management and lesson planning.
Duties
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing educational programs tailored to meet the individual needs of students.
- Support students in their daily activities, ensuring they are engaged and participating in lessons.
- Help manage classroom behavior by promoting a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop lesson plans that accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as needed, particularly for those with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Monitor student progress and report any concerns regarding academic or behavioral issues to the teacher.
- Assist with literacy education initiatives, fostering reading and writing skills among students.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
Requirements
- Experience working in a school setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices.
- Familiarity with literacy education strategies and techniques.
- Previous experience in childcare or working with toddlers is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with children who have autism or other developmental disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with students, teachers, and parents.
- A passion for supporting the educational growth of children with special needs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.00 - $16.00 per hour
