Chatham County Government has an opening for Construction Inspector I. You may be our candidate if you have Civil Engineering Technology, site construction, and plan review experience.
Under the direction of the Senior Development Services Engineer, you will conduct construction inspection activities for private development construction sites to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and with approved construction plans and documents. You will read, interpret, and apply construction standards and specifications for private development construction sites. You will review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and analyze data. You will inspect multiple projects throughout the County daily and document all construction activities for each site. Projects may include residential subdivisions, commercial, and industrial sites along with projects funded by the County or the State. Your work will require walking on rough terrain and may involve some climbing. Outstanding communication and customer service skills are needed as you notify others of errors, omissions, and violations during construction, discuss corrective options, issue violations, document findings, and recommend solutions. You may perform traffic, erosion control, stormwater and other inspections. Other duties may be assigned.
Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field, and at least three (3) years of site construction and plan review experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. You must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. You must possess or be able to obtain a Level 1B red card for E&S inspections within six (6) months.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
