What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility Locator position at Chenault Consulting, Inc?
Job Summary:
The Utility Locator utilizes various types of locating equipment to perform locates and is responsible for locating and marking all locatable underground utilities within the spotting instructions per the One Call or Wide Area locate. The Utility locator is also responsible for documenting actions taken within the client-managed systems and communicating with all involved parties.
Responsibilities may include:
- Communicate and schedule with the client and contractor when the locate will be performed.
- Use existing utility maps, blueprints, and other computer mapping systems to help determine the location of each utility.
- Use electronic pipe locating equipment (Radiofrequency, electromagnetic), metal detectors, and other sensitive electronic equipment to verify the location of utilities.
- Locate and mark the location of utilities such as gas, oil, water, electric, and sewer lines with the proper color of flags, whiskers, or paint.
- Communicate your findings with clients, and the contractor performing the dig.
- Document interactions, and site information within the ticket management system to capture all the data (Locator notes, communications, pictures, etc.)
- Maintain accurate records of work completed within the Ticket Management System.
- Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and walk up to (12) hours per day while carrying materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
- Must be able to stand & walk-in various types of weather conditions and working surfaces (snow, mud, excessive heat)
- Must be able to drive company vehicle up to (6) hours per day to travel to and from the job site.
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various conditions.
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of the job site in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
- Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.

- The employee must pass an initial Pre-Employment Drug screen as well as participate in a Random Drug screening program.
- Must be able to operate a company vehicle in all types of weather and road conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain that license for the duration of your employment with CCI.
