Overview

Facilitates language learning at all proficiency levels by creating curricula and using research-based language revitalization strategies and methodologies. Builds, constructs, and facilitates the development of the Cherokee Language Curriculum to ensure the perpetual revitalization of the Cherokee Language.


Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

At least six months experience in a related field.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should know Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

Depending on work location, may be required to meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities:

Delivers excellent outcomes (academic and non-academic) for Cherokee Language advocates.  Develops the department program/curriculum i.e. curriculum, standards, target setting, assessment, and reporting.  Develops, prepares, and delivers teaching and learning material to language teachers and/or students.  Compiles, evaluates and creates language curricula and teaching material in both English and Cherokee languages.  Act as a subject area expert providing support and advice for any learning institutions associated with Cherokee language learning.  Provides leadership that secures the delivery of high standards and achievement for all students and is responsible for the organization, management, and control of the department as required.  Contributes to the Cherokee Nation Strategic Language Implementation Plan (CNSLIP) as required by the Management.  Draws up the Department Development Plan following the Cherokee Nation Strategic Language Implementation Plan (CNSLIP).  Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of language acquisition, while focusing on the elevation and maintenance of standards and expectations of Cherokee Language revitalization efforts.  Monitors, evaluates, and intervenes to ensure all participants are working towards meeting expected benchmarks in all key stages.  Helps to ensure that the Cherokee Nation meets and exceeds the expectations for language teachers, learners, and communities.  Helps to create the best environment, atmosphere, and ethos that will advance, expand, and secure the achievement of both staff and participants.  Goes above and beyond expected levels of commitment to ensure that the Cherokee Language and values thrive for future generations. Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Salary : $41,800 - $52,900
