What are the responsibilities and job description for the School/Community Specialist position at Cherokee Nation?
Coordinates and conducts cultural, education, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) events, presentations, coordinates the ordering of needed materials, equipment and activities, as well as research on culture, history, lifeways and STEM.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree from 4-year college or university; or six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least two years experience in a related field.
COMPUTER SKILLS
None required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of and the ability to teach cultural activities. (For example, basket making, pinch pots, blow guns, corn husk dolls, etc.)
Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Responsibilities:
Conducts presentations for schools, community organizations and other institutions. Plans, promotes and conducts outreach and cultural events with internal and external programs or organizations. Develops a schedule for school visits. Develops relationships with school officials and community leaders. Conducts Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), education and cultural activities for schools and other events. Organizes community/school participation in events. Assists community/school in setting up events. Identifies, refers and schedules events with schools/communities. Coordinates with Education Program Liaison on the creation of activity booklets, handouts and brochures. Setups and assists programs Robotics, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and cultural events. Teaches cultural activities, such as basket making, pinch pots, blow guns, corn husk dolls, ect, as assigned. Other duties may be assigned.
