The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a Benefit Programs Supervisor to help individuals and families in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights navigate Benefit Programs services while providing excellent customer service.
What You Do and How You Do it:
The Benefit Programs Supervisor works to coach and train staff to achieve performance excellence; manages change and facilitates adjustments necessary for the team to embrace changes in practice and program policies and procedures.
The Supervisor develops efficient workflow for ongoing program development. Reviews and evaluates program effectiveness using data and various program evaluation methods; makes decisions on complex cases; handles difficult and unusual cases; serves as liaison to other agencies and workgroups; monitors expenditures of the unit's programs; manages an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required. Perform other work as required.
Here's What You Need:
Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related Human Services field and five years of eligibility experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience; one year of experience as a Lead Worker or Senior Benefit Programs Specialist; preferred experience in Title IV-E, Training and Quality Assurance and Fraud.
- Knowledge of the principles of effective supervision
- Knowledge of IV-E foster care, Medicaid, and other Federal, State, and local regulations
- Knowledge of public assistance programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Child Care, General Relief, and Refugee Assistance
- The ability to train and coordinates training for the Benefit Programs Division on policy and procedures for all benefit programs: coordinates training schedules with other supervisors and arranges for training room and equipment
- The ability to review cases, policies and procedures for accuracy, efficiency and quality assurance
- Broad awareness of current trends in management consulting, organizational development, and administration of public and private for-profit organization
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and database applications)
- Consistent excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to serve a culturally diverse community with the ability to solve complex customer inquiries
- The ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and efficiently, both orally and in writing
- The ability to schedule and manage high-volume workloads to meet established deadlines
- Superior planning and organizational skills
- Good basic math skill
