Position Description: This position provides the delivery of academic curriculum with prescribed modifications per IEP and administers the program behavioral plan thus ensuring provision of quality therapeutic and educational services. This position provides services for children in grades K-12.
Responsible for the provision of individual and group instruction by:
- Providing academic assessment and evaluation in order to determine the appropriate level of initial academic instruction and subsequent lesson planning to advance each student’s knowledge.
- Providing education in conjunction with the students’ academic plan and the individual treatment plan in accordance with best practice standards and protocols.
- Participation in treatment meetings for all units
- Meetings with parents to discuss their child’s progress and to counsel parents to help child’s study skills.
- Conduct or participate in IEP meetings (depending on credential) with school district personnel, parents, and children to adjust and plan the child’s academic program.
- Write or Prepare (depending on credential) ERs, RRs, Behavioral Support Plans, and IEPs according to special education regulations.
- Update, maintain and file records of child’s progress reports, permission slips and progress monitoring according to the IEP regulations.
- Monitor and administer state assessments yearly – KEYSTONES, PSSA and PASA (Special Education Teacher Only) – according to state policy and regulations.
- Maintain lesson plans weekly according to Department of Education Standards and program standards; Maintain grades weekly on the computer system – THINKWAVE.
- File quarterly progress reports and report cards in both the academic file and main file on each student in the program; maintain a copy of each student’s IEP served in your classroom for academic modifications as well as behavioral plans.
- Obtain ACT 48 credits according to the Department of Education timeline for renewal of certification: Conversion of Instructional I certification to Instructional II according to the Department of Education timeline.
- meet the requirements in the following trainings: TCI – Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, CPR and First Aid.
- Working as colleagues with clinical and medical staff in an effort to enhance the total academic/therapeutic experience.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Education: bachelor’s or master's degree in health and physical Education
Experience: Prior teaching experience preferred
Certification: Public or Private Teaching Certification
Other Requirements:
Proficient in basic computer skills
PA State Criminal Clearance
Child Abuse Certification
FBI Clearance
