Responsibilities
- Assures appropriate level of understanding, awareness and compliance with all applicable Joint Commission, federal, state and agency laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards.
- Ensures optimal utilization of department resources through participation in planning capital and operational budgets, in development and implementation of systems and practices that achieve defined objectives, in internal and external benchmarking activities and in monitoring, analysis and resolution of budget and productivity variances.
- Works collaboratively to develop plans, goals, and implementation strategies in support of CHI Health’s Mission, Vision, and nursing, campus, and system business objectives. Maintains a department scope of care based on patient population and identified needs.
- Develops, coordinates, and manages operating systems, operational standardization, service standards, approaches, communication methods and policies across the Alegent Health System.
- Maintains a system of management reporting that provides the system with timely and relevant information on all aspects of areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for assuring appropriate management practices, maintenance of appropriate staffing levels, competency assessment, staff orientation, ongoing education and development, and appropriate counseling, appraisal and role development in all areas of responsibility.
- Participates in the development of quality indicators and responds to a full range of financial, service and quality indicators in all areas of responsibility.
- Maintains a collegial and cooperative relationship with the other Hospital Operations and Service Line Directors, working as a team to search out and implement efficiencies, economies and best practices.
- Provides high quality perioperative services at reasonable costs by directing the programs, policies and procedures for all areas of responsibility. Develops, monitors, and ensures implementation of evidence based clinical standards of nursing practice.
- Assumes responsibility for such duties and projects as may be assigned by the hospital CMO VPPCS or Division Director Perioperative services.
- Promotes a culture of customer service focused on patients, families, visitors, physicians, other departments and the community. Establishes and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships with the CHI Health and Independent Medical Staff. Develops and implements programs and processes to support patient and physician satisfaction.
- Demonstrates work practices consistent with CHI Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs.
- Authorized to make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure.
- Works effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
- Accountable for all aspects of personnel management. Completes annual and internal performance review assessments within proper scope of judgment and accountability. Note: if the manager does not possess the same background licensure as their clinical staff members, they must have peer reviews completed for staff members to ensure clinical competence is met and validated.
- Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining and updating knowledge/skills in the fields of nursing, health care management and areas of responsibility. Participates in appropriate professional organizations and develops a professional network.
- Promotes staff autonomy and decision making through support of a shared governance structure. Establishes a work environment that facilitates staff accountability and responsibility. Optimizes staff potential and retains qualified, competent and satisfied employees.
Qualifications
Require Bachelor's degree in nursing. Master's strongly preferred.
Current Registered Nurse License in Nebraska or Iowa, Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in the state of your residence.
Certification in specialty areas such as CNOR, CPAN, or CSSM.
ACLS or PALS is preferred if incumbent has potential to work in clinical areas, commensurate with departmental requirements.
BLS certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, American Safety and Health Institute: CPR, PRO, must say “Professional Level-with AED”, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
