What are the responsibilities and job description for the Disabilities & Mental Heath Specialist position at Chicanos Por La Causa?
The Disabilities and Mental Health Specialist (DMHS) is responsible to:
- Provide guidance, training and resources to ECD staff and parents in support of the delivery of integrated early childhood services in the areas of disabilities and mental health in Center Based, Home Based and Family Child Care Program Option environments in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
- Promotes school readiness by preparing children and families for school and life success as it applies to this position.
- Actively supervise children by sight and sound at all times and in all environments.
- Maintain all health and safety regulations to create an optimum learning environment. Facilitate health practices to keep children safe in the school bus, outdoor and indoor environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications for the DMHS area as follows:
- Applicant must have basic keyboard skills, be able to use computer, computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe) and web based systems.
- Must possess strong capacity building, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
Minimum education qualifications (one of the listed below):
A. Baccalaureate degree in Special Education plus 1-2 years’ experience.
B. Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Development plus 1-2 years’ experience.
C. Baccalaureate degree in Psychology plus 1-2 years’ experience.
Preferred Experience:
1. Experience working with multicultural socio-economic at risk populations is preferred.
2. Bilingual in English/Spanish.
