What are the responsibilities and job description for the CASA Case Supervisor/Volunteer Coach position at Child Advocates - CASA of Red River?
Responsibilities:
A. Confidentiality: Maintains the privacy of all clients, volunteers, and staff Proactively protects confidentiality by being aware of private information in workspace and by being aware of persons who can hear confidential conversations. Employee must utilize locking enclosures and ‘log off’ computer when leaving office.
B. Volunteer Supervision
1. Assists in the recruitment and training of volunteers. 2. Notifies all relevant parties of volunteer’s assignment. 3. Guides volunteer to advocate for the child. 4. Orients newly trained volunteers, and monitors the training needs of all volunteers, and responds by providing needed information and teaching needed skills. 5. Supplies necessary paperwork to volunteer or guides volunteer in the procurement of case documents. 6. Obtains copies of case records that are acquired by volunteer. 7. Notifies volunteers of court hearings, Permanency Conferences (PC) and Family Group Conferences (FGC) as soon as notice is given. 8. Accompanies volunteers to all hearings, CPS meetings, and mediations. 9. Accompanies volunteers on initial home visit(s). 10. Makes contact with volunteers at least three times a month. 11. Prepares volunteers for court hearings. 12. Guides volunteers, as needed, in writing and filing court reports on time. 13. Supports and provides recognition for volunteers individually and collectively and takes actions to retain pool of volunteers. 14. Guides and supervises volunteers’ ongoing casework. 15. Works in correlation with the volunteer to utilize the Community Family Engagement tools
C. CASA Volunteer Responsibilities 1. In a timely manner after appointment, obtain first hand a clear understanding of the needs and situation of the child by reviewing all relevant documents and records and interviewing the child, parents, social workers, teachers and other persons to determine the facts and circumstances of the child’s situation. 2. Maintain confidentiality of all issues and records of the case. 3. Meet the child(ren) in a timely manner after appointment and meet in person with the child(ren) at least one time per month. a. If the child(ren) are placed one to three driving hours away, then I will meet in person with the child(ren) at least once every three months b. If the child(ren) are placed more than three driving hours away, then I will meet in person with the child(ren) at least once every six months. c. If the child(ren) are placed one or more hours away, I will have other types of age appropriate contact with the child(ren) including telephone calls, emails, and/or letters as applicable for the child’s age and interests at least one time per month. 4. Meet in person with the child’s primary placement provider in a timely manner after placement occurs and communicates with the placement provider at least once a month thereafter for the duration of the assignment of the child’s case. Communication with the placement provider does not need to always be in person, but I will visit the home at least once every three months (or every six months if my child(ren) are more than three driving hours away). 5. Observe the family and child during visitation at CPS at least one time per month. 6. Communicate with the CPS caseworker after appointment and at least one time per month for the duration of the case. 7. Advocate for the child(ren)’s best interest in the community by interfacing with mental health, medical, legal, educational and other community systems to assure that the child(ren)’s needs in these areas are met. 8. Participate in all scheduled case related meetings. 9. Seek cooperative solutions by facilitating communication among parties maintaining communication with the child(ren)’s parents, family members, attorney ad litem, teachers, CPS, placement provider, and other service providers as applicable. 10. Appear at all hearings to advocate for the child(ren)’s best interest and permanency. Provide testimony when necessary, making recommendations for specific appropriate services for the child and when appropriate, the child’s family. 11. Provide written court reports for all permanency, review, and final hearings which include findings and recommendations. Ensure that court reports are completed, including signatures so they may be filed, and distributed 10 days prior to the court hearing. 12. Assists applicable families in filing for Crime Victims Compensation. 13. Informs applicable families how to register for VINE services. 14. Complete twelve hours of continuing education training per year. 15. Maintain complete records about the case, including appointments, interviews and information gathered about the child and the child’s life circumstances. 16. Turn in volunteer hours and case notes monthly by the 10th. 17. Report any incident of child abuse or neglect, or any situation in which I have reason to believe that a child is in imminent danger to the CASA supervisor and appropriate authorities, following state legal requirements as mandated in the Texas Family Code. 18. Notify my CASA staff immediately if I cannot perform any of the above commitments or cannot continue working on my child/children’s case. 19. Return all case files to the CASA program after the case is closed.
D. Case Work In the event that a volunteer resigns or is dismissed from a case or a volunteer is not available to work a case, the Case Supervisor will be responsible for working the case as above listed.
E. Public Relations 1. Maintains a working relationship with the courts, District Attorney’s Office, Child Protective Services, legal community, foster care providers, children’s advocacy centers, children’s physicians and counselors, and other relevant agencies, persons, and organizations. 2. Promotes awareness of child abuse/neglect and the needs of abused and neglected children, assists with Child Advocates’ annual prevention month activities and events. 3. Assists with Child Advocates marketing and recruiting booths, presentations, special events, and fundraisers as needed. 4. Attends ALL Child Advocates special events and fundraisers. 5. Is deeply committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusiveness.
