SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Conducts intake and initiates all necessary forms required by the program/CFS to open case. Establishes participant rapport and trust and provides empathetic encouragement and support to participants. Ensures participant safety by examining alternatives and providing options for alleviating the immediate situational threat in relation to the crisis. Maintains a list of collaborative contacts and community services pertinent to participant's needs. Develops a plan to energize participant to take action. Obtains agreement (from participant and parents) as to the action required to stabilize the participant or crisis situation. Provides information and referral services to community resources and agencies. Attends case conferences with other disciplines or team members. Maintains participant confidentiality at all times. Participates in program staff meetings, meets with supervisor on a regular basis, attends monthly team group supervision, and attends training and other staff development activities, especially on topics related to crisis intervention and cultural/ethnic diversity. Enters data into the computer and maintains case recording, mileage logs and other miscellaneous reports in a timely fashion.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Crisis Specialist I

  • Four-Year College Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Over 2 years of supervised clinical experience.

Crisis Specialist II

  • Master's Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. 1 to 6 years of post-master's experience.

Crisis Specialist III

  • Master's Degree from a school accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. 6 years of post-master's experience.

Other (Specify): Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or nursing. Master's Degree as a board-certified behavior analyst, marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor, psychologist, social worker, school psychologist or psychiatric nurse.

Other (Specify): For a Bachelor's Degree: at least two years of supervised clinical experience in providing direct crisis response care for youth. For Master's Degree: one year of supervised clinical experience in providing direct crisis response for youth.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Skills in collaborating with other disciplines and agency personnel; knowledge of community resources and laws pertinent to crises victim; ability to maintain composure under pressure and in emergency situations; strong verbal and listening skills.


OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This job requires a valid Hawaii driver's license and a clear driver's abstract and continued employment may be contingent on maintaining a clear driver's abstract.
  • Verification of licensure/certification will be required at time of appointment/hire, and continued employment is contingent on maintaining licensure/certification.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPI classes OR other Behavioral Management certification as may be contract-mandated.
  • Continued employment in this position is contingent on successful completion of CPR and First Aid classes.
