Children of the City (“COTC”) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been driving socioeconomic progress
since 1982 by bridging opportunity gaps for 15,000 families and 5,000 students. Youth and children gain
educational support through our College Bound and Create Success programs. Kindergarten through Eighth
grade students receive help improving their reading, language and math skills in our afterschool and summer
programs. High school students receive help boosting their SAT scores, applying to colleges, and obtaining
financial aid in our college bound programs. Low-income families gain access to free resources and services
through our Future Safe community aid program and Strong Minds Safe Homes community outreach program.
Job Summary
Program Supervisor is an organizational leadership role that requires educational credentials / background, people leadership skills, and organizational administration skills.
Qualified Candidates have a minimum of 12 credits in Education and experience working with students.
This role is highly suitable for (a) an active/former school teacher, (b) an experienced administrator with educational credits and strong organizational skills.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Supervisor will supervise the program’s daily operations and tutors, and lead the program’s orchestration and administration, ensuring that the Create Success and College Bound programs run in a high quality way to meet the needs of the community.
The Program Supervisor excels at working independently - taking the initiative to lead program recruitment and help deliver excellent services to the community, reliably complete projects from start to finish and proactively offer progress updates, share/receive thoughtful feedback and suggestions, plan and think ahead.
The Program Supervisor is also highly collaborative, partnering well with colleagues, educational partners, and program participants to cultivate an inclusive and collaborative community.
Job Description
In supervising and administering the Create Success and College Bound programs, the Program Supervisor’s responsibilities will include:
- Directly oversee, recruit, train and supervise the program tutors.
- Evaluate tutors’ job performance, provide them with training and guidance, review their assignments and reports, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and ensure task completion (e.g., tutors must take program attendance, file behavioral reports)
- Lead staffing recruitment efforts, which includes reviewing job applications, conducting one-on-one and group interviews, making job offer recommendations, and leading the hiring/onboarding process for program tutors.
- Lead program recruitment events with schools and families, helping to bolster program enrollments and facilitate program applications
- Establish and maintain great relationships with teachers and faculty in local schools
- Lead meetings with parents, faculty, and tutors to communicate information regarding the programs, and to obtain feedback on the quality/satisfaction of program services provided
- Record and maintain key program participation data for outcome reports
- Ensure the needs for program supplies and materials are being met
- Create and manage calendars for program oversight and administration
- Ensure compliance with the Department of Health and SACC Child Care License, managing filing requirements, documents and records
- Administer paperwork required to meet licensing requirements by obtaining required documents, submitting online applications, maintaining dual remote/digital and on-site/physical filing systems
- Organize and store records digitally on the google shared drive and hard copy files, including licensing paperwork, DOH certifications, employee background checks, childcare voucher paystubs, program attendance and participation records
- Generate communications about programs and administer required materials, including flyers, policies, announcements, registration applications, payments, and consent agreements
- Administer tutor/volunteer recruitment for programs by submitting online jobs postings,
- scheduling interviews with candidates, facilitating background checks, handling email correspondence, and sharing onboarding materials with new hires
Job Qualifications
- Hold a Minimum of 12 Credits in Education
- Hold or Obtain CPR & First Aid Certifications
- Be Reasonably Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, or in Google Sheets, Google Documents, and Google Shared Drive (helpful, but not mandatory)
- Be Reasonably Proficient in Conversational Spanish (helpful, but not mandatory)
- Meet one of the two criteria:
1) Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Education, Early Childhood, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field, and/or
2) New York State Children's Program Administrator Credential and one year teaching or
supervisory experience in a school, child day care center, group family day care, or other
childhood program.

Exact Hours will vary for Full-time or Part-time employment status.
Expected Days/Hours for Part-Time Position:
September-June: Monday - Friday, 2:00pm-6:30pm.
July - August: Monday-Friday, 8:30am -2:30pm.
Expected Days/Hours for Full-Time Position:
September-June: Monday-Friday, 10:30am-6:30pm.
July-August: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm.
Initial pay: Negotiable; starting $21-$27 per hour, depending on credentials, experience, and skills.
