Essential Functions
1. Evaluate and attend to participants’ needs in person and by answering incoming calls, responding to voicemail messages, making daily appointment reminder calls and documenting appropriately.
2. Screen WIC applicants for eligibility and enter information into WIC database. Ensure that all required documentation is accurately completed as is appropriate. Acquaint prospective participants with the WIC program rules and answer questions they may have.
3. Perform intake measurements on participants’ including height and weight and hemoglobin tests.
4. Using approved material, provide Secondary Nutrition Education Contacts for participants and document appropriately
5. Provide referrals to WIC participants to appropriate services as needed; i.e. social work, home visiting nurses, FIP, housing, food banks, shelters, etc.
6. Distribute WIC checks and ID folders to WIC participants and accurately explain the use of WIC benefits.
7. Process paperwork and communications with DOH and colleagues for special cases such as transferring participants and participants with complaints.
8. Process all Voter Registration documentation according to Board of Election Policies and Procedures.
9. Interpret for WIC nutritionists and other staff as is needed in approved languages.
10. Maintain check safety and accuracy, according to WIC procedure manual.
11. Maintain WIC office presentation and cleanliness as well as the security and maintenance of participant charts.
12. Maintain a sufficient supply of medical and office supplies.
13. Attend and actively participate in all required trainings and conferences for the WIC program, including Children’s Friend core training program as appropriate.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required and at least one year of experience in an administrative support position.
- Must be able to collaborate professionally with staff to provide an outstanding level of service to WIC participants and attend to their needs.
- Must possess superb customer service and communication skills.
- Must have an intermediate level of proficiency with computers and in data entry.
- Experience working in a medical environment preferred.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Additional language proficiency preferred.
- Successful candidates will be required to meet our pre-employment background screening requirements.
