What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Intervention Specialist position at Children's Home Network?

JOB SUMMARY: This position delivers RAISE services utilizing a broad range of interventions, community services and natural support systems. This dynamic position will work collaboratively with families to support children with academic, social-emotional and behavioral needs through observation of parent-child interaction, and utilizing motivational interviewing techniques to identify strengths and empower families throughout the decision-making process for change. This interventionist will work with parents/caregivers and teachers to design and implement individualized intervention services that best fit the specific needs of the children and families. This position involves a broad range of skills that include training and staff development activities, assessment services, consultation, and requires quality documentation of services provided. Participates in the organization’s performance and quality improvement efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Provides intervention services up to 20-25 assigned families.

2.Participates in Family Team Conferences.

3.Collaborates and coordinates activities with each family to develop and monitor Family Support Plans.

4.Conducts observations of parent-child interactions and utilizes Motivational Interviewing techniques through a Trauma Informed Care lens to identify strengths and challenges.

5.Completes assessments and designs interventions that address the academic, mental health and social-emotional needs of the child and will be monitored on the Family Support Plan.

6.Develops behavioral plans and provides tools and best practices to support parents/caregivers and monitors progress during service provision.

7.Coordinates with the Parent Coach existing and added services to meet the unique needs of each child.

8.Coordinates independent contractors or specialists and monitors quality and compliance with service provisions and effectiveness.

9.Participates in the organization’s performance and quality improvement efforts.

10.Ensures staff fully utilizes agency MIS system and is responsible for integrity of data.

11.Works within the philosophy and function of the Children’s Home Network.

12.Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or Mental Health Counseling field from an accredited university with at least five (5) years’ clinical experience working with children and families.

Licenses & Certifications:

•Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.

•Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance. Must be insurable under CHN’s current auto insurance policy.

•Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

•Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.

COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Annual Training Requirements:

•The following training topics are required annually: Sexual Harassment, Blood borne Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting, Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Prevention of Violence in the Workplace, OSHA–related training, Crisis Prevention, and other Programmatic Trainings.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

•Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with families, coworkers, supervisors, and other individuals. Possess effective interpersonal skills.

•Knowledge of agency’s organizational structure, standard operating procedures, and policies.

•Knowledge of child abuse or neglect reporting procedures and methods.

•Knowledge of infant and child development inclusive of developmentally appropriate strategies.

•Knowledge of intervention and behavior management methods, strategies, and techniques.

•Knowledge of quality documentation as required by agency standards, rules, and regulations.

•Ability to conduct assessments to develop family plans, and to provide follow-up services.

•Ability to work as a multi-disciplinary team member in a positive productive manner.


Essential Physical Skills:


•Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read printed materials, and make observations of physical facilities.

•Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group settings.

•Ability to speak clearly and effectively.

Environmental Conditions:

•Works within an office environment, home office, family’s home, or within the community.

•High level of emotional discussions, requiring self-awareness and understanding of professional boundaries.
