The Cardiac Sonographer Senior performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult; assists the laboratory with complex cardiovascular malformations and technically advanced cases. The Senior Sonographer has obtained a high level of proficiency, competency and knowledge in the field of pediatric echocardiography; provides instruction and orientation of new employees, physicians, fellows, students and preceptors; possesses advanced cardiac ultrasound theory and techniques; experienced in the field of cardiology, comprehension of anatomy and physiology, with specific experience in pediatric cardiac ultrasound.
This position is eligible for relocation assistance, if relocating from 100 miles or greater.
Qualified external applicants are eligible for up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus for full-time positions.
Department: Briargate Cardiology
Hours per week: 20, eligible for benefits
Shift: scheduled hours plus call/weekend requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED. Specialized course work (or equivalent) in a 2 year college program with emphasis on imaging modalities or other associated medical program.
Experience: Five years of experience in the use of Motion-Mode (M-Mode), 2D, Pulse Wave (PW), Continuous Wave (CW), and color flow Doppler techniques.
Certification(s):
- Pediatric Registry required; Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS);
- Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) or
- Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI);
- BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
- Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, newborns to adults, for congenital heart disease with a high degree of difficulty or complexity requiring knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and congenital heart disease.
- Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol.
- Completes Doppler studies and obtains appropriate color flow and spectral analysis Doppler data including advanced analysis of hemodynamics.
- Prepares accurate preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation of observed echo findings; reviews completed studies with cardiologist
- Assists the cardiologist in the cardiovascular operating room and cath lab with trans-esophageal echocardiography.
- Requiring advance knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and complex congenital heart disease.
- Provides mentoring and training of new sonographers, fellows, and visiting sonographers.
- Tracks and documents ongoing training and self-study for quality improvement; maintains a registry of credentials and certifications.
- Assists with organizing and developing quality assurance programs.
- Maintains clean and safe practices, procedures, equipment, and work space in order to contribute to a healthy patient care environment.
- Completes mandatory occupational meetings and training as outlined by hospital policies; attends all staff meetings with exception of holidays or patient scheduling conflicts.
- Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients in the network of care and regional sites as needed.
- By position, may perform lead duties to include coordination of day to day activates; providing technical assistance including but not limited to equipment training, troubleshooting and maintenance. May also provide educational training or assistance with special projects and evaluations including but not limited to compliance studies.
- Network of Care and Regional Clinics: Takes the lead in program development related to orientation and instruction of new sonographers; general decision processes; resolves scheduling conflicts, changes, cancellations and workflow issues; creates and updates information binders, maintains commission checklists, manages room utilization and organization, reports equipment malfunctions and resolves equipment performance problems; may be involved in new site development and planning.

Guidelines: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $82,100.66 to $123,150.99Hourly Salary Range: $39.47 to $59.21
