POSITION TITLE:
SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
POSITION STATEMENTS:
· Provide speech therapy to pediatric patients with communication, cognitive & swallowing disorders in accordance with existing standards of practice and ethical principles by assessing, developing, & implementing appropriate treatment plans.
· Evaluation & treatment of speech, language, fluency, voice, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, feeding & swallowing disorders.
· Collaborate with families and interdisciplinary team to communicate information, resolve issues and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Participate in development & revision of comprehensive treatment and prevention plan for children at risk and with disabilities.
· Attend team meetings & family conference for clients by presenting evaluation results, treatment plans and progress reports to medical team and family
· Educate families and staff on communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
· Ensures protection of confidential information in accordance to HIPAA guidelines.
· Select and administer age appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic technique & materials.
· Consistently follow documentation protocol.
· Comply with ASHA Code of Ethics
· Re-evaluate effectiveness of ongoing therapy while implementing appropriate changes.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
1. Successful completion of fieldwork experience or job experience in related area.
2. The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
3. Knowledge of information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Must hold a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of speech pathology with a minimum of one years’ experience working in the field.
Minimum Experience:
2 year of clinical experience in pediatric setting as a Speech Language Pathologist.
Required Certification or Registration:
Licensed as a Speech and language Pathologist by the Texas State Board of Speech – Language Pathology and Audiology.
Must hold a Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Current Basic Life Support/ CPR Certification for Health Care Providers
D. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
