Department: Clinical Nutrition
Hours per week: 32, eligible for benefits
Shift: Monday-Thursday 8:00AM-5:00 PM; every 3rd Saturday is On Call; frequently will need to work up on a Friday.
Job Overview
The Clinical Dietitian III provides comprehensive, safe, and effective medical nutrition therapy through evaluation and assessment of nutritional status, determines appropriate nutrition interventions to improve nutritional status, and provides comprehensive and detailed nutrition education and care plans to patients and families in inpatient and outpatient areas. Also serves as an expert resource to the multi-disciplinary medical or surgical team on any nutrition-related matters.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
Provides competent and timely medical nutrition therapy for patients with a variety of diagnosis, in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting as needed. Incorporates principles of culture-competence and family-centered care into clinical services.
Provides appropriate education and nutrition counseling to patients and families. Participates in the updating and development of nutrition education materials as needed. Participates in education of students, interns, medical providers, and the community as requested and appropriate.
Collaborates with the family, medical team, schools, home care companies and other providers as appropriate to ensure the continuum of care for the patient and optimal clinical services and outcomes.
Completes written documentation of medical nutrition therapy provided in accordance with department standards for format, content, and time frames.
Accurately and consistently documents and charges for (if applicable) direct patient care time in the electronic medical record.
Demonstrates leadership by mentoring, training and precepting of staff, participating in planned professional development, and encouraging commitment, responsibility and accountability of each staff member.
Provides patient care with a comprehensive and analytical approach, grounded in knowledge, experience, critical thinking and expertise in clinical nutrition, including proficient use of interviewing, education, and counseling strategies.
Demonstrates excellence in the nutrition field by contributing to the department, the hospital, and the professional community in the areas of Leadership and Professional Development, Education and Research, and/or Service through Quality and Process Improvement and meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Dietitian Career Development Ladder document.
Maintains a high level of organizational awareness in order to successfully engage, impact, and influence others with a goal of achieving high value patient care and outcomes, and contribute positively to the organization’s effectiveness.
Continuously strives to support and improve clinical, educational, research, and advocacy programs in department; sets and models high performance standards that empower peers to achieve agreed upon outcomes to help improve the department’s effectiveness.
Represents the department and serves as an advocate for change in the department and the organization; is actively involved in committees, professional development and projects that support organizational goals; works to advance the dietitian profession.
Provides patient care with a comprehensive and analytical approach, grounded in advanced knowledge, experience, critical thinking, and expertise in clinical nutrition, including use of advanced interviewing, education, and counseling strategies.

SCOPE AND LEVEL
Guidelines: Advanced full performance professional level work that requires additional knowledge, education, training or experience. Guidelines are generally in the form of stated objectives only with issues and factors largely undefined requiring the employee to exercise creativity and ingenuity in devising criteria, techniques, strategy, and methodologies for approaching assigned functions or projects.
Complexity: Duties performed involve concepts, theories, and concrete factors to be evaluated and weighed requiring a high degree of analytical ability, independent judgment, and decision-making. Acts as a subject matter expert in the field of expertise.
Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed
Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION – Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or other field.
EXPERIENCE – Five (5) years pediatric nutrition experience.
Multiple years of work experience as an RD specializing in eating disorders and care of other types of psychiatric patients is preferred.
EQUIVALENCY – One (1) additional specialty certificate such as CNSC, CSP, CSO, etc. accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree with five (5 years) pediatric nutrition experience. Ten (10) years pediatric nutrition experience and one (1) specialty certification accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree. Ten (10) years pediatric nutrition experience and Master’s degree accepted in lieu of specialty certification.
LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION(S) – Registered Dietitians (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN), and one (1) specialty certificate such as CNSC, CSP, CSO, etc.

Salary Information
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $54,695.88 to $82,043.82
Hourly Salary Range: $26.30 to $39.44
